There are actually two auto-scales for the backlight that can be selected: Standard and Bright. The default setting is Standard. 

If you feel that the automatic display dims too much at night, you can change to the Bright setting instead. Please try following the instructions below to increase the auto-brightness level.

1. Turn the radio on and ensure you can hear a station playing.

2. Press the Menu button.

3. Scroll using the < or > button to 'DISPLAY' and press the Select button.

4. Scroll < > to 'BACKLIGHT' and press Select.

5. Scroll < > to 'STANDBY' and press Select.

6. Scroll < > to 'BRIGHTNESS' and press Select.

7. Scroll < > to 'AUTO' and press Select.

8. Scroll <> to 'BRIGHT' and press select.
